Walker Farms
Relinda Walker's Grandfather bought his Sylvania, Georgia farm in 1925 from a cousin the year that her father was born. Relinda's father bought his first tractor for this same farm in 1948 the year Relinda was born. You could say that Relinda was destined to farm but this was not exactly the first route she took. After College her career field led her to New Jersey. In January 2002 she made her decision to move back to Georgia to help her father transition his farm to direct market produce. Relinda now has transitioned 40 acres of her father's farm to organic where her crops are Vidalia onions, watermelons, cantaloupes, sweet corn and a variety of vegetables using rye and soybeans as her rotation crop. Since becoming an organic farmer Relinda has taken an active role in organics in Georgia being a key member of Georgia Organics. She supports the USDA's National Organic Program and her ideals follow the path of sustainable agriculture. Her goals are "to be a good steward of the land, make the farm sustainable and respect the interdependent web of all existence, of which we are a part."
